Business Insurance in Louisiana

Coverage for Louisiana businesses of every size and kind, from an independent brokerage. We compare options across our carrier markets and explain the choices in plain language.

What Louisiana law requires

  • Workers' compensation for employers. Louisiana requires employers to secure workers' compensation through an insurer, a group self-insurance fund or approved self-insurance, and to file proof of coverage within 30 days of the effective date. Full-time, part-time and seasonal workers are covered from their first day. Narrow exemptions apply to small amounts of farm and household labor.
  • Owner opt-outs. Corporate officers, LLC members, partners and sole proprietors who own at least 10% can opt out of coverage on themselves by written agreement with the insurer.
  • Auto liability of at least 15/30/25. Vehicles need at least $15,000 per person and $30,000 per accident for bodily injury and $25,000 for property damage. Those minimums are low for a business, and contracts often require more.

Coverage Louisiana businesses review most

  • General liability. Covers claims that your business caused injury to someone or damage to their property.
  • Business owner's policy. Property and liability in one package, a common fit for small and mid-size businesses.
  • Property & equipment. Your building, equipment and inventory. Wind and flood terms deserve a close look.
  • Commercial auto. Vehicles used for work. Dealers, repair shops and truckers usually need garage or trucking forms instead.
  • Workers' compensation. Required for Louisiana employers, with workers covered from day one.
  • Professional liability. Claims tied to advice, services or mistakes in your professional work.
  • Cyber liability. Data breaches, ransomware and the costs that follow.
  • Umbrella & excess. Extra limits above your liability, auto and employer's liability policies.
